Streamlining the Automotive CAE Workflow with Oasys Software

In this workshop, we will explore how the Oasys LS-DYNA Environment software can help users streamline their entire Automotive CAE workflow. We will discuss the software’s capabilities for setting up crash tests, including the Crash Test Setup tool, which is designed to work with different test regulations and allows for customizing crash tests and running in batch mode. We will also cover how to use the integrated Automotive Assessments Workflow and post-processing tool REPORTER for quick and efficient results analysis and reporting.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

Overview of the Oasys LS-DYNA Environment software and its capabilities for setting up crash tests, with examples of common automotive crash tests regulations such as Euro NCAP and IIHS

Best practice for using the Crash Test Setup tool, including customizing crash tests and running in batch mode

Methods for quick and efficient occupant injury and structural assessments using the Automotive Assessments Workflow

How to use REPORTER for time-saving automated reporting, including the use of templates for different safety protocols

If time allows, we will also cover other tools in the Oasys software that make the simulation workflow smooth and easy.

This workshop is suitable for engineers and designers with a basic knowledge of CAE simulation. By attending this workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to use Oasys software to streamline your entire automotive CAE workflow, including crash test setup and post-processing. We look forward to seeing you there!

Certification-by-analysis

As the digital twin is more and more established in every day engineering design work and the respective predictiveness of models in impact and crashworthiness simulation has gained previously unimaginable quality, questions often arise about the further need of a physical twin. The most obvious one is probably how these high fidelity models can be used for homologation of products which in turn directly leads to the need of certification of product models, anthropometric test devices or even human models. The whole subject is a pressing question not only in the automotive industry but touches interests in transportation  in general as well (aerospace, rail). The same holds for commodity products like mobile phone, tools etc. in drop test simulations and will lead to new software technical requirements.

This session will be started by impulse lectures on the legal requirements and technological aspects in automotive and in occupant safety but will broaden to further initiatives n national and EU level (e.g. impact simulation of aerospace structures). An open discussion with experts from TÜV, BAST, TUGraz, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and DYNAmore will conclude the session.

Healthcare Applications in LS-DYNA

Driven by personalized healthcare there is a rising interest in utilizing LS-DYNA to solve challenging healthcare applications. This is mainly due to the inherent multiphysics capabilities of LS-DYNA, which will enable users to combine the isolated approaches of today to more complex simulations in the future.

In this session we address the simulation of structural heart diseases as well as potential treatments. This will include details on the structural simulation of stents and stent frames for artificial heart valves as well as simulations to compute the fluid-structure interaction of artificial heart valves. Model Quality – getting your model ‘right’

To be able to capture more and more detail in an analysis, LS-DYNA models continue to increase in size and complexity. A model can now commonly have ten to twenty million elements and it is essential that checking procedures are used to ensure that the model is ‘right’. As element count increases, checking an LS-DYNA model can be a difficult process as many of the checks can be very complex. Having robust methods for checking a keyword deck both interactively and as part of any automatic process is therefore essential for quality models and correct results. Ultimately, this will also give significant time savings.

This workshop will describe the various checking methods, tips, tricks, and best practices to help you check and interrogate your LS-DYNA models, pre- and post-submission, using functionality in the Oasys LS-DYNA environment.

Workshop FabWeld

FabWeld is a development environment for the optimal application of the LS-DYNA code for the calculation of all thermal joining processes using the finite element method for highest precision with the help of the welding structure simulation.

With FabWeld you simulate all processes of arc and beam welding as well as brazing.

FabWeld take into account the clamping tools with their clamping kinematics.

The workshop is intended to give a first insight into the operation and performance of the programme:

Create and prepare material cards for welding simulation - with and without microstructure transformation.

Setup of welding simulation models:

Hands on DM.inspect

DM.inspect is a batch program from the DYNAmore ECO SYSTEM allowing customized quality control for LS-DYNA input files. The software requires the individual definition of quality criteria by the user rather than providing any pre-defined checks. This modularized approach allows the application of DM.inspect for various simulation disciplines, typically having different modeling requirements. The check procedure performed by DM.inspect can be divided into three subsequent phases. An optional pre-phase where checks from a pre-processor can be applied, a simulation-phase performing an LS-DYNA initialization run and a post-phase with various checks based on the LS-DYNA input and output files. In the last phase, DM.check-hsp is used to create an XML-file containing model information from LS-DYNA’s output files. Finally, DM.inspect writes a report containing the results of the performed quality checks. DM.inspect can be used as a stand-alone tool as well as integrated in a simulation data management environment.

After a short introduction to DM.inspect and DM.check-hsp, the workshop will demonstrate the set-up and application of an
automated model check. The installation/ configuration of the tools will be discussed, followed by the definition of different
checks for a typical LS-DYNA include file from an automotive crash model. The workshop will mostly take place in the form of a live demo, leaving plenty of room for questions from the audience.

Material modeling for lightweight design

Lightweight is one of the catchwords when it comes to efficient and sustainable designs. The focus lies especially on materials like aluminum, ultra-high-strength steels and thermoplastics where optimized structures can only be achieved if these materials are brought near to their limits. This means that the material description in the simulation must be done as accurately as possible. However, such materials typically exhibit a behavior which can be challenging to describe.

This workshop aims to discuss how materials currently used in the industry mechanically behave, from plastic deformation up to fracture, and which possibilities are currently available for a successful material description in LS-DYNA. Special attention will be given to the description of plastic deformation as this is important for the subsequent failure prediction for which appropriate experimental data is crucial. Finally, we will shed some light on the current challenges involved in accurate material description up to fracture and give some hints on how to improve simulations.
